»More Smog than in Beijing« - one of the many headlines that are currently describing the environmental problem of the German city of cars, Stuttgart. Due to the geographic properties - the city is located in a caldera-like valley - »fine dust alarm« occurs almost daily and for weeks. Also the automotive industry is deeply rooted in Stuttgart. Mercedes and Porsche, and additionally hundreds of supplier firms to the industry are located here.
Most of the daily traffic is due to commuter flows which enter the city in the morning and leave it in the evening. This is where our concept begins. We think there has to be an attractive alternative to driving with the private petrol-driven car, available at the gates of the city. Based on the current technical achievements of electric mobility, we propose an incubator for a new form of inner-city transport.
Apart from the use of urban infrastructure, our proposal also provides plans for the use of existing buildings at the portal to the city. This not only makes sense for ecological and economic reasons, but also serves the purpose of creating a symbol of the synthesis of old and new. We understand our concept as a solution-oriented vision of how a post-fossil form of mobility and an accompanying restructuring of urban processes is possible.
